These simple Easter activities for kids, including easy Easter crafts and new Easter traditions, can keep the holiday festive despite being stuck at home.
It feels a little strange gearing up for a holiday with everything that's been going on, but I think our little ones certainly deserve to celebrate!
The good news is that kids are really so flexible in a lot of ways. Give them a few treats, some low key decorations and a fun activity or two and the holiday will be a win in their books.
So fill the plastic eggs, FaceTime with the grandparents, make the most delicious pantry-inspired feast you can and choose a couple of these low key at-home Easter activities to get your little ones hopping with excitement.
1. Do a fancy photo shoot
Did you already order Easter outfits? No reason for them to go to waste! As great as athleisure is, I think we all feel better getting dressed in real clothes from time to time, even the kiddos.
Get everyone dressed up in their Easter best and do an at-home photo shoot.
Set up a tea party with the stuffed animals and get some sweet shots of your kids living their best lives.
Let the kids play photographer and take some shots of you.
Blast some music and capture them dancing, with real smiles instead of posed ones.
And of course, make sure to send those photos to loved ones!
The beauty of this is you can actually catch your kids at their best, in the comfort of their own homes, rather than the pressure of a forced pose at church or after the big egg hunt.
2. Craft cards for Grandma
With a few stickers and perhaps some watercolors, making Easter cards can easily become a morning's big activity. Cards are always appreciated, but there's something especially nice about receiving them when we're all feeling a little more isolated than usual.
Want to go the extra mile? Invite your child to make some extras and send to a local senior home.
3. Make a healthier treat together
Now is the perfect opportunity to get your little sous chef in the kitchen. They just may love making these healthier treats with you so much that it becomes a yearly Easter tradition!
Here are some of my favorites that would be easy to make with kids:
Homemade Peanut Butter Cups
These are just as good as the Reeses eggs and So. Much. Healthier.
Feel free to shake some Easter-themed sprinkles on top!
Chocolate Drizzled Fruit
It doesn't get any simpler than this! Use whatever fruit you have on hand.
Carrot Cake Bites
I love making energy bites with kids because, unlike cookies, it doesn't matter if theirs are all different shapes and sizes. No baking means they can roll them into whatever size balls their little hearts desire!
4. Decorate the house
Decorations don't need to be fancy to impress kids.
Cut some spring-colored construction paper into strips and make paper chains.
Decorate the sidewalk or driveway with sidewalk chalk flowers.
Use a big piece of butcher paper to paint an Easter mural and let the kids glue on some real grass or flowers from the backyard.
Tell your children you need their help to make the house beautiful for the holiday and they will rise to the occasion!
5. Pick wildflowers
I know that in some places it still looks like winter outside, but if you live somewhere warm, get outside and pick some flowers! Even simple dandelions can look beautiful and bring some cheer to the house.
Show your child how to choose a small vase (mason jars work well!), pour in a little water, and arrange some wildflowers. This will soon become a favorite springtime activity!
Want to take it a step further? Make dandelion crowns! If you have younger kids, they'll need help with this. Simply pick dandelions or daisies with long stems and tie or weave them together to make a circle.
6. Make thumbprint chicks
Show your child how to use their thumb as a stamp to make a chick shape and draw on a little face.
No yellow ink? Don't worry, any color will do! If you don't have ink, just use paint and let it dry before drawing the face.
7. Play with easy ribbon wands
Obviously craft store runs are out right now, but do you have any ribbon leftover from the holiday season?
Invite your child to find a stick and help them tie on the ribbons. Feel free to add bells or other embellishments you have laying around. They'll love dancing with the ribbons or playing fairies in the backyard.
