1,2,3 of Infused Iced Tea

Something about the summertime makes glasses of fruity beverages enticing. Normally, I would be all set with a glass of water to quench the thirst. However, on a hot summer day, water just isn’t refreshing enough. Unfortunately, many of the options are either lacking in nutrients or pumped with sugar – neither option is ideal for summer re-hydration.  So where to turn?

It’s not news that tea is a great, low-cal beverage option. However, for me, tea has always come in two varieties: steaming hot with no additions or ice cold and loaded with sugar. The sweltering heat vetoes the hot version. The dietitian nixes the cold. With this in mind, it may be surprising to learn that a new favorite fruity, summertime drink is tea – infused with fresh fruit and herbs of course!

There is nothing more simply sweet and refreshing than a glass of tea with fruit and herb infused right in. Beverage companies have put a few of these on the shelves, but these processed versions just aren’t the same as the ones you can prep on your own (and typically include added sweeteners). There are so many simple combinations to try, especially with so many fruits in season during the summer. My favorite is white tea with raspberries. Perfectly sweet and refreshing!

So try it! It's perfect to prep ahead. Mix up a batch (or three) on your Prep day and store in the fridge. This way, you have tea ready to pour into a reusable water bottle to take with you when you’re ready. Now that’s a greener alternative to the pre-bottled, store-bought kind. Plus, with real fresh fruit floating in it, you’re refreshing fruity drink is pumped with vitamins!

  1. Boil and steep enough tea for an entire pitcher (you’re going to want this much – believe me)
  2. While allowing the freshly steeped tea to cool, add your choice of fruit and herbs to the pitcher. Crush slightly to get the juices flowing!
  3. Pour the cooled (just over room temperature) tea into the pitcher and refrigerate until chilled.

  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries

  • Mint 
  • Basil
  • Parsley
  • Cinnamon
  • Ginger
