Spring Break. Your kids are on the countdown to freedom for a week. You are on the countdown to “yikes”. Whether you are taking a big trip or need some quick on-the-go snacks, we have simple and easy gluten-free and Paleo snack ideas for you that are healthy and can be prepped for the week. One less thing to worry about – whew!

Prep Dish tip: these snack ideas are great to have ready to go during the school week as well. Establish a snack bin in your fridge and pantry so your kids know what they can easily grab when they need a nutritious boost.

Grab your grocery list and a pen! Don’t forget to add baggies and/or travel containers to pack your snacks. Make sure to read ingredient labels, esp on bars, chips, etc. to avoid added sugar, salt, msg, gluten, etc.

Fruit & Nuts

Mix & match to fit your needs, here’s some of my favorite combos:

  • Blueberries + Almonds
  • Pomegranate Arils + Walnuts
  • Oranges (so portable!)
  • Raisins + Walnuts
  • Banana + Nut Butter Packet
  • Cashews
  • Grapes + Pistachios
  • Raspberries + Pumpkin Seeds

Veggies

  • Carrot Sticks
  • Fennel Slices
  • Broccoli
  • Jicama Slices
  • Cucumber Slices
  • Celery Sticks
  • Bell Pepper Slices

Proteins

  • Hard Boiled Eggs
  • Pepperoni*
  • Organic Cheese Stick
  • Tuna Pouches
  • Sliced Chorizo*
  • Deli Meats*

*read ingredients for sugar-free & nitrate-free

Chips & Dip

  • Popcorn Baggies
  • Organic Blue Corn Chips + Avocado
  • Potato Chips + Hummus
  • Sweets & Beets Chips + Salsa
  • Hummus & Veg + Avocado (these are great to pick up at the airport too)

Bars

Note: Lara bars & RX bars are sweetened with dates and Epic bars contain no added sugar.  It’s really important to read ingredients on all bars! They are often loaded with hidden ingredients & added sugars. I avoid bars with any type of processed sugar including brown rice syrup, honey, cane sugar, etc. I like to keep added sugar intake to a true “treat” like a (gluten-free) brownie :).
