Mixed Berry Green Smoothie

My Mixed Berry Green Smoothie has the perfect balance of sweetness to offset any bitterness from the greens. Truly delicious green smoothie!

As temperatures warm up, I find myself wanting more and more smoothies for breakfast or as a post-workout snack. And there is no easier way to get your greens in for the day than this mixed berry green smoothie!

If you are using fresh berries (great way to use up stock in your fridge), be sure to use frozen bananas.

Need a new blender? I recommend the Vitamix to all of my personal chef clients. It’s a bit of an investment, but so worth it!

How to Make Green Smoothies that Actually Taste Good – Tips for Success

If you like the idea of green smoothies, but have been less than impressed with the results, try my tips! I promise, you can make a green smoothie that you'll actually want to drink for the taste, not just the nutrition.

  • Don't Overdo It – If you're not used to adding greens to your smoothie, start with just a handful of spinach. You can add more as your palate adjusts.
  • Start with Spinach: While you can absolutely sub other greens, I recommend starting with spinach until you're used to the taste. Spinach has a quite mild flavor and I honestly can't taste it in my smoothie.
  • Use Coconut Water: If you want to add a little extra sweetness, use coconut water (or orange juice!) for the liquid in your smoothie. I personally love coconut water because it's super hydrating and nourishing, and not overly sweet.
  • Get a Good Blender: A high quality blender is extra important when you're including greens in your smoothies. No one wants a beverage with pieces of spinach floating around in it….

How can I make this Berry Green Smoothie more filling?

If you're looking to make this smoothie a meal, rather than a post-workout snack, you'll likely want to add some protein and healthy fats. Here are a few of my favorite simple ways to do that:

  • Add a spoonful of almond butter or cashew butter
  • Sprinkle in some hemp seeds or ground flax
  • Include some avocado – like the spinach, you can't taste it!
  • Add some unsweetened coconut
